Borir Biye - the wedding of 'bori' or handmade lentil dumplings - is a unique indigenous ceremony that has been mostly forgotten today. It heralds the start of the dumpling making season, and is traditionally held on the first Thursday in the month of Agrahāyaṇa. The bride and groom 'bori' are made from lentil batter, and meadow grass placed atop them, with the bride ‘bori’ smeared with vermilion, while several smaller 'bori' placed next to the bridal couple serveas bridesmaids and groomsmen.
