Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Riyazuddin started learning to paint at the age of 13 from his father Abdul Shakoor, a well known antiques dealer of his time. Riyazuddin developed a deep interest in Indian miniature paintings, especially the Pahari school of Rajput paintings. In 1999 he started his own studio, and today his miniatures stretch across a range of miniature styles, including Mughal, Rajasthani, Himachal, Deccan and Pichwai. His work often takes a lighthearted look at things using traditional forms, and unfailingly reflects his extraordinary craftsmanship and exquisite eye for detail.
