Karim Mansuri
Namda is a centuries old craft of felt-making, practised in many parts of India, including Kachchh, where it is made from indigenous sheep wool. Traditionally used to create saddle blankets for horses and camels, the craft is pushing new boundaries in the hands of skilled and inspired artists like Karim Mansuri. Karim draws inspiration from diverse fields of modern art, and from folk-art traditions of other regions, to subvert the traditions. His captivating themes, rich with colour and texture, are bold and contemporary, turning what was once regarded as a coarse art into high-art.
