Ramesh Hengadi
Ramesh Hengadi is a member of the Warli tribe from Thane, Maharashtra. He has been painting in the Warli style since childhood, having learned by observing women of the tribe create this beautiful art at village festivals and weddings. Traditionally painted on the mud walls of homes, Warli art has moved to paper and canvas, but continues to use a mix of rice flour, water and gum as paint, with a bamboo-stick for brush. Ramesh Hengadi’s paintings tell stories of village scenes, nature and community, the unique music and cadence of Warli life. He is committed to preserving their rich traditions, by showcasing their extraordinary art across the world.
