Lado Bai
Lado Bai belongs to the Bhil community in Madhya Pradesh, one of the largest tribal communities in India. Working as a manual labourer alongside her family amidst financial constraints, Lado Bai’s talent was discovered by the renowned painter Jagdish Swaminathan who motivated her to become a full-time artist. Painted in the centuries-old Bhil style, with its characteristic use of dots, Lado Bai’s works are steeped in spirituality and animism, and depict flora and fauna, traditional rituals and festivals, and the lives of people in her community.
