Ramesh Marwada
Kharad (carpet, in Sindhi) weaving is an ancient craft among the nomadic communities of Kachchh. Back in the day, they sheared the hair of their livestock and spun it into woollen yarn which they then wove into thick, durable rugs, mats or cloths for use on the floor, on the backs of camels, or to store grain. Ramesh and Daya are among Kharad’s most skilled artisans today. In this collection they weave together skill, design and culture, pursuing the geometry of knot, line, and plane from different points of view, to create contemporary interpretations of Kharad.
