Sanjay Chitara & Sons
Mata Ni Pachedi (literally, “behind the Mother Goddess”) depicting stories of the Mother Goddess, were used as mobile shrines by the nomadic Vaghari community of Gujarat who were not allowed into temples. Sanjay Chitara’s family has been practising this art form for generations, and he began learning it at an early age. While staying true to the core form, he has also introduced new colours, styles, stories and formats that help evolve it, and his fine detailing is a hallmark of his craft. Sanjay Chitara’s works have been shown prestigious exhibitions in India and outside, and he is the winner of several state-level and National awards.
