Ladakh Art Palace (Gallery)
A Thangka is a Tibetan Buddhist painting, thought to trace its origins to early Buddhism. Thangkas are done on either cotton or silk appliqué, mounted on ornate silk textiles, and covered with sheer silk fabric that is folded up when the painting is displayed. They usually depict Buddhist deities, scenes from Buddhist life and the mandala, and are thought of as a tool for contemplation rather than expression. The Leh based Ladakh Art Palace, purveyors of authentic art and craft from Ladakh, have curated a special range of Thangkas for BARO MARKET.
