This a very finely executed vintage Jatra Hanuman mask from Odisha. ‘Lankapodi Jatra’ is a unique tribal folk theatre of Kandhamal district in Odisha. The mask dance is staged on an open field with 70 characters, including Ram, Lakshman, Sita, Hanuman and Ravan for a fortnight from Ram Navami every year. In this mask, Hanuman is depicted with large eyes, a well rounded moustache and wears a crown that has very intricate handpainted decoration. The details in the carvings and the finesse in the painting is quite spellbinding. The mask is mounted on a stand to enable display
