A finely crafted Bhairava head features a moustachioed visage with bulging eyes, cheeks, and a huge gaping mouth with large teeth. This depiction represents Bhairava, an avatar of Shiva, often associated with tiger-like or gargoyle-like features. These heads are also known as "Demon Scarers" which served as protective deities during festivals and processions. They were believed to guard against invaders, thieves, and various natural calamities like fire, storms, floods, and drought.
