This mid-20th century reverse glass painting depicts Andal, the only female Alvar saint of the Vaishnava Bhakti tradition. She is shown standing in a frontal posture, holding a fully bloomed lotus in her left hand, an attribute associated with purity, devotion and her spiritual connection with Lord Vishnu. The composition follows established South Indian devotional iconography, with emphasis on the clarity of the figure, graceful posture and symbolic attributes. Andal is richly adorned in traditional attire and jewellery, reflecting the visual traditions through which she continues to be worshipped in Tamil Nadu.

The painting is executed using the distinctive reverse glass painting technique, in which pigments are applied to the reverse surface of the glass. Details have to be painted in a carefully considered sequence, as the image is viewed from the opposite side once completed. The technique became an important form of devotional and decorative painting in India, particularly in South India. Andal's worship remains deeply connected with Tamil Vaishnava tradition, especially during the month of Margazhi, when her devotional poetry and association with Vishnu are celebrated through temple and household rituals. This painting represents that living devotional tradition through a distinctive material form.

With subtle signs of age across the surface, the painting retains the character of an mid-20th century devotional artwork. It is an evocative example of Indian reverse glass painting, bringing together Vaishnava iconography, South Indian devotional culture and a distinctive painting technique.
