Smita Sahu

Smita Sahu is a multidisciplinary artist whose work blends traditional techniques with
contemporary expression. Trained at the National Institute of Design, she returned to
art in 2016 after years in graphic design and publishing in North America. Her
practice spans digital media, painting, and mixed-media work rooted in sustainability
and craft. Using the Japanese momigami technique – kneading paper with oil,
layering it with paint, collage, and slow stitching – Smita transforms recycled
magazines and packaging into richly textured surfaces layered with paint, collage,
and slow stitching. These one-of-a-kind pieces speak to transformation,
environmental consciousness, and the poetry of process.
