Pintu Biswas is an artist whose practice is deeply rooted in the cultural and spiritual landscape of rural Bengal, where he spent his early years. After moving to Kolkata to study art, he continued to draw inspiration from the simplicity, vitality, and expressive language of rural folk traditions. Influenced by the visual memory of these communities, Biswas adopts a direct and unembellished approach to art-making, reflecting their essence in his work.
His practice responds to the pace and pressures of contemporary life, which he perceives as gradually eroding human warmth and joy. Through his work, Biswas seeks to reclaim and preserve the innocence of a simple smile, an enduring symbol of hope and human connection. His art ultimately conveys a message of emotional resilience and collective liberation, aspiring to spread quiet optimism in an increasingly restless world.
