This monochromatic diptych titled ‘Silva Maris’, Forest of the sea, is an intricate graphite, acrylic and silver leaf collage work that alludes to the stony coral carcass, once home to life and colour. Just as a forest sheds its leaves and goes bare, with rise in atmospheric temperatures, so do reefs when the polyps are released from the corals. Part of the artwork also exposes the cellular microscopic structure of corals that are just as inspiring as their external forms.
