Sanjay Chitara’s family have been Mata ni Pachedi artists for generations, and he began 
learning it at an early age, going on to become one of its best known practitioners and 
ambassadors. 

Legend has it that the 8 great Shaktis that emerged from the cosmic soul of the principal deities to form Kali Durga, the universal Shakti, in turn manifested into 8 Shaktis each. These 64 Yoginis were powerful goddesses with unique personas, who could dispel negative forces and bring knowledge and peace. The number 8 is sacred in the Tantric tradition - e.g. 8 universal tatvas, 8 siddhis - and 8 times 8 or 64 occupies an even more profound position. The supernatural powers of the 64 Yoginis is attributed to sustained sadhana, and this work is an ode to them.
