This fine piece of craftsmanship is our traditional handcrafted wooden mask of Yali. Yali is a mythical creature seen sculpted in many temples, many times portrayed as a part lion, part elephant and part horse, representing their combined strength. Yali has been depicted in many South Indian sculptures, primarily by Nayak rulers. The deep red colour and the protruding tongue of the Yali in the mask is the artist's expression of the energy, boldness and strength of the Yali.
This mask is a statement piece handcrafted in raintree wood by our artisans in Tamil Nadu. The mask has a hook on the reverse side for hanging.
Please note that handcrafted pieces may show minor variations in colour and detailing.
Care instructions: Wipe the piece with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, dampness, heat or cold.
All art to be shipped outside India will be sent in unframed form.
